What we do?

In 2008 we launched a survey in order to gauge the needs of women working within the heritage sector. Over 90% of respondents said they would find a work-specific women’s group of use. Of the choices given for possible services to be offered by Women in Heritage, mentoring and networking have been the most popular.

Following this initial response, we are in the process of developing a structure for mentoring, advice giving and events. We feel there are three priorities: a secure web-based network for our prospective members to gain advice and share stories; a monitored mentoring scheme across the sector to give women a chance to share information and gain the support they require; a series of networking events across the UK and beyond where women can meet, share knowledge and learn.

Father to these initial services we hope in the future to develop programmes for career and educational advice, Continuing Professional Development workshops, and advisory panels. We also aim to be a visible force, celebrating the role of women in the heritage sector, and working with the media and other organisations to spread a positive message.
